About African tongue drums :

The tongue drum is a late version of the ancient slit or a log drum, originally made of bamboo or other kind of wood in Africa. It has a pipe like figure, closed from both sides. The H shaped cut forms two tongues, making three different pitches together with the drums body. The drums shell serves as a resonating chamber for the sound vibrations created when the tongues are struck. Today tongue drums are made of different types of wood; most of them look like wooden boxes, and have up to sixteen tongues. Resently a new tipe of tongue drums have appeared...the "hanks". Originally home prodused from propane tanks and now manufactured by companies from various versions of tanks, from different kinds of metal, in several forms and shapes.

About the Caribean steelpans :

The known Caribean stelpans come from the Trinidad Islands. This amazing insrument was developed there by the locals after the 2nd World War. The amazing thing about steelpans is in their tuning. One's creator and master tuner must obtain knolege ang skills which require not less than 10 years of intense practice, in order to acheive the correct sound of each note and the whole instrument. Each fundamental note of the steelpan has two overtones ( harmonics ) tuned to it, it isa done only by hammering. This complicated tuning process is the reason for the fact that these instruments can be made and tuned only by hand.

About the ECLIPSE drums :

The Eclipse drum is a combination of the African tongue drum and the Caribean steelpan. Here we have eight tongues which are tumed to eight fundamental notes, each note posesses one overtone tuned to the it's octave,it is done by intirely by hammering. The Eclipse has a senter dome which is tuned to a bass note, it is done in a way simillar to the steelpan tuning. It has two tuned overtones- one octave and its fifth. In total, we have over 25 diffrerent frequencies tuned in a 9 note instrument. This special tuning is what makes our instruments sound so special. This mixture of the two tuning techniques is unique and hand-made exlusively by 1TONE. The properties of this material contribute to the divine sound of the drum. This srong metal will keep the Eclipse tunned for a long lasting period. Our shell design and note placement were inspired by the famous Swiss made hang drum. The centeral note is pressed out by hand and tuned to one of the tones of the scale. A variety of musical scales is offered to you, allowing you to choose your favorite tuning.
